Back in business

An early start through the streets of Vadodara showed us just how vibrant this place is, even on a Sunday morning. Safely at the airport, we navigated security and then out to Spirit of Douglas, who was waiting patiently for us.
A great relief and joy to be aboard and hear her fire up and run smoothly. A couple of hours’ flight to Nagpur where we stopped to refuel on the hot tarmac. Thankfully, the prepositioned Avgas was waiting for us. The local team helped us refuel which saved us pumping by hand. Very grateful for that because the day just kept getting hotter!
After narrowly avoiding a swarm of bees we were soon off again and glad to be at altitude away from the heat. A long flight to Kolkata above the dusty and hazy landmass of India. Incredible views coming into land with brightly coloured buildings nearby.
Another warm welcome from airport and handling staff. Several hours later we’d refuelled (hand pumping again) and were ready for some shut eye.
It feels like real progress reaching Kolkata. I can only wonder if Spirit flew through here over 80 years ago. She saw service not far from here in the Assam Valley when she flew the hump route during WW2. Maybe she recognised some of the scenery
